I finally decided that im gunna go with the XFX Radeon r9 390 8GB  for my graphics card. I started ordering parts and i realized that one of the reviews on newegg said that he had to upgrade his PSU because the card needs a minimum of 750 watts to run. Is that true? Or am i good with a 650 watt?

@ClubGaming_ a good 650 watt should be plenty.

that season unit you have should be fine as long as it has enough connecters.

Your power supply is 620W. Regardless, it's totally fine.

If you look at reviews of this card, it is not going to pull anywhere NEAR 750W. In fact, HardOCP gets the total system wattage at 419W.

I'm still confused with that. why would xfx recommend a minimum 750w psu? do you have an explanation?

To cover their butt. That's why. That is the only reason. Wattage isn't everything anyways.

What if for all intents and purposes you have a 750W unit that delivers MOST of its current on the 5V rail. It's by definition 750W, but it'll do you no good in powering a high end build. Wattage by itself in a power supply is meaningless. You must look at the individual rails to see if it can support your system properly.
