Hello, how are you?

I have a z170 board with a 6600k.

I need a new memory kit.

I am wondering what is the best kit for skylake.

At 2800 or 3000 MHz without breaking the bank.

I read that some ddr4 models are more suited for socket 2011-v3 and not the more recent skylake.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

Cheers

Do you want 8GB or 16GB?

Here's a 16GB kit that is pretty decent: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231902

Kit of 8GB that's not expensive at all for the speeds: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313582

Stuff:  i7 7700k @ (dat nibba succ) | ASRock Z170M OC Formula | G.Skill TridentZ 3600 c16 | EKWB 1080 @ 2100 mhz  |  Acer X34 Predator | R4 | EVGA 1000 P2 | 1080mm Radiator Custom Loop | HD800 + Audio-GD NFB-11 | 850 Evo 1TB | 840 Pro 256GB | 3TB WD Blue | 2TB Barracuda

2800 and 3000 ram could be sold as either and literally be the exact same ram but one was tested and proven to actually work at the higher frequency and more than likely has looser timings. Some of the Skylake boards are actually for DDR3L so you better make sure what your board actually needs. If I was doing Skylake I would want a board with DDR4 so I could bring over the DDR4 to a new build in the future. You can't go wrong with Corsair, Kingston, GSkill, literally any of the big names... get what you like, what matches your build, or whats on sale.

  1. Find out if you ACTUALLY need faster RAM. 98% of the users don't have the slightest need for it, so you could very much pick 2133 / 2400mhz RAM and save some coins. If you DO need it, however, keep reading. Otherwise stop.
  2. Look for 2x4 or 2x8 (depending on how much you want) kits. They are marginally "better" for Skylake.
  3. Oh, and btw, Ripjaws V > Ripjaws 4 for Skylake, if buying G.Skill RAM.

I need a new replacement kit.

I have a Corsair lpx 3000mhz 2x8gb kit on my build, but one of the dimms is defective.

I have filled the return claim and am currently running on a single dimm.

Since I don't want to go for an exchange as that would mean I would be out of memory for some time, and will buy a new kit and return this one for a refund.

As such, I was wondering if there is a better option.

My cpu is a 6600k running at 4.8 and my board is a z170i pro gaming itx.

Cooler is a noctua Nh-d14, so clearance is an issue.
