Unless you need the H.265 and HDMI2.2 for a 4K 60Hz TV I´d go for a R9 380X. If you need a GTX960 then you´d need the 4GB version.

I wouldn't get a 2GB card. They kinda suck.

Looking at Canadian PCPartPicker, the least you'd have to spend for a 4GB GPU is ~$280, 960 and 380.

I used to be quite active here.

Well in research I have found that 4 gb cards make little difference at 1080p gaming and I don't intend on upgrading to 4k anytime soon so i dont really think it would be worth it for me to drop more money for a feature im not going to take advantage of right now.

If your wanting a card within that price range the 380 as said is very comparable, while going up to a 380x would be nice there is a larger price gap, I had a friend who was asking the same thing earlier:

2GB:

That´s not true, sorry. There are lots of games out now that use more than 2GB VRAM in 1080p already and 4K with the GPU you are intending to buy... ehm no not going to happen in any way. 4K demands some serious raw computing power.

You would limit yourself from the very beginning to be honest, and not to mention the next years we will definitely see games that go as high as 4GB VRAM in 1080p. Just because the whole hardware and developer site goes to this trend. Next year we are going to see from AMD and nVidia cards that feature HBM2, then min. 8GB HBM2 VRAM will be standard and the top dogs of the lines could feature as much as 16GB. So this is a clear indicator also for the developers, that they don´t have to compress texture that much anymore. That has already clearly started. Look at cards like the R9 390(X) with its 8GB or the 980Ti with 6. Not to mention that the Titan X features 12GB.

Choice is yours of course but you might regret 2GB VRAM in the future.
