As the title say, I'm running into problem with MSI lightning 770, unable to plug it into the first pcie 3 slot because the heatsink I'm using is too big. GA z87x ud3h, Thermalright Silver Arrow Sb-e Extreme. So my question is can I plug it into the second pcie3 slot without any decrease in performance. My mobo has 3 pcie slot, and the specs is PCI Express 3.0 x16: 3 (x16/0 or x8/x8 or x8/x4/x4). Does it mean that I can plug my gpu into any of these 3 slots, and as long as I'm using 1 gpu, it will always run at x16 speed?

Thank you for helping me. Sorry for my bad English.

I don't think it will run at 16x, but there really isn't too much of a performance decrease to notice.

even if the second 16x slot is only wired 8x it runs at 99% of the performance of a full 16x wired slot

You can plug it into any of the pci-e slots and get the maximum bandwidth, aka speed
