Hi all,

I would like to make a stream trans-coding machine to take the load of my main pc.

Basically I want to stream at a high bit rate but low cpu use age preset to a secondary PC running Ubuntu with Nginx as a RTMP server and ffmpeg as a trans-coder.

I would like you to spec me something capable of doing this job, all i need is the possessor, memory and motherboard (already have everything else lieing around).

Do not care between Intel or AMD, just needs to be as cheap as it possibly can but able to do 720p60 whilst still keeping up decent quality.

I have bee thinking about maybe getting an FX-6300, do you think this CPU would be powerful enough?

Thanks

P.S. I am currently using my mac book pro to do this and well... it just doesn't cut it

yeah, the FX should be more then fine...pair it with some 2400MHz RAM to help it along (the weaker the CPU, the more effective FAST RAM is)

ok thanks, is the network adapter required or will the onboard one do just fine ?

i havent used the board so dunno about the onboard, but getting a better network card is worth it i guess.

its streaming, you want as stable and fast connection as possible. Intel has great cards, even their budget stuff

you could dedicate the intel NIC to streaming, and have the on-board NIC for generic system internet access.

the extra nic may not be of much use now, but it certainly wont be wasted money.

and if its of no use now, its not like you cant pull it out and toss into a different machine later.

(i'm actually gonna experiment with having two subnets on a single infrastructure, as a budget solution for load balancing. i'll toss a guide on the forum if it proves useful.)
