...did it not come with a charger?

The 6P uses USB type C and a proprietary quick charging method for charging. With type c the spec hasn't been totally finalized. There are many cables and wall chargers available that are not safe to use with your 6P. A large number of the type c to normal USB cables on Amazon are not ok to use and can heat up. At this point, I can only recommend that you buy chargers and cables from Google, or one that has been recommended by Google.
