Video Card Purchase Help

Hi Guys,

I just build a new rig in hopes of gaming at 4K at the time all I could afford was a single GTX 980 knowing i would need another one in the near future. Now it's time to buy a second one but i'm not sure SLI is the best way of going so i figured i would ask for help. If i sell my GTX 980 Posideon for around $500 CAD. And added to the cash i have saved up $600 i'd have $1,100. so i guess whats the best use of $1,100 and bang for my buck. Possible options are:

 

1) Titan X

2) 980 SLI

3) 980 TI SLI (but this would mean i would have to save more when i dont like doing)

 

Some crossfire AMD options?

CPU: I5-6600K

RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400

MOBO: Gigabyte Z170X-SLI

GPU: GTX 980

EVGA 850 GOLD PSU

Crossfire Fury X? You'd need the space for the radiators, but they perform awesome at 4K and Crossfire is awesome with them.

I'd save money for pascal since it's pretty much going to be built specifically for 4K gaming.

I have a huge case (thermaltake core v71 extreme) so no worries there. I have to admit not much of a AMD guy, would my 850W PSU be enough? (keep in mind i'm already overclocking my CPU, and might also do so with GPU)

the release is Q1 2016 right? do we have any idea what kind of prices we would see? also keep in mind the second pascal comes out my 980 drop in price to maybe like $400? still for $1,000 i would be getting a decent pascal card?????

 

 

 

 

ALSO: just read that nVidia have to develop thier own interconnect because PCIe 16 is not fast enough so this would also mean new mobo they are calling this technology NV LINK.

I have two 980's and even at 3440x1440 there's a few titles that will max out the VRAM so adding a second card probably isn't your best option.  I've been kicking around the idea of upgrading to 980ti's or 390X's but I think it's worth it to wait for Pascal at this point.

Fury X CF will outperform 980 Ti or Titan X SLI as CF simply scales better due to the lack of a bridge to bog down the process

850W is enough if it's a decent PSU.

PCI-E is lots faster than  SLI bridges, I'm sure it'll be faster than NV link or whatever.

Just FYI, NVLink is for servers only. No plans for consumers at this time. NVLink is much much faster (80GB/s) than PCIe (16GB/s), but GPUs don't even saturate PCIe speeds quite yet.

So no new mobo if you went with nVidia.

Thanks for the info guys.... i cant wait i will be buying SOMETHING soon. Pascal might be another 6 months before release... I am thinking of just going GTX 980 SLI i've seen some very encouraging YouTube videos that shows it outperforms the single Titan X. i know SLI results very from game to game so that sucks but for $500 it's my best option.
