If Cannonlake is the next CPU after Skylake yes. The one AFTER Cannonlake is a new socket.

If it follows the tick-tock (i.e. architecture-process) model like intel is known to do, and taking into account the fact that Kabylake will be a refresh, then Cannonlake would be a die shrink to 10nm on the 1511 socket, and the one after would be a 10nm lithography on a new socket.

If you make a post contradicting mine that doesn't directly address my claims, or cites 'facts' without evidence, I'm probably not going to bother responding to it, because you probably didn't bother reading my post properly, and because life is too short. It doesn't mean I don't have an answer for you. It means I'm not dignifying you with a response.

I guess its speculative at this point, but does anyone have an idea about whether or not cannonlake is set to come out for the lga 1151 socket?

Probably a different socket, with intels planned roadmap and how they release new sockets with the tick tock "mechanism".

gazing into my crystal ball.

it will be a different socket - with much greater PCIE bandwidth - or maybe something special. Optane will be thirsty for the bandwidth.

Kabylake (the next intel CPU) will fit 1151 - and be backwards compatible with Z170, but will come with a new chipset. I expect this new socket will have between 1200 and 1500 pins.

I have further confirmed this prediction by assessing the tea leaves in my morning bevvy; and by studying the entrails of some road kill on the way to work.

I later intend to sprawl some old bones along the ground. This will act as the final confirmation of my predictions.

All three Skylake, Kaby Lake and Cannonlake will run on the same socket LGA1151. Skylake and Kaby Lake supported for chipsets 100 and 200, while Cannonlake only for 200.
