I am supposed to build my new PC with 1150 and i5 4590 when I learned that the price of i5 6500 isnt that far from 4590.

1151 are the newer ones..

I will use them with R9 380

Should I just replan my build and get the 6500 instead? Tho I think it'll cost around $50-120 more.

Edit:

I could also just purchase a cheaper CPU for 1151 which is the Pentium G4400 and after few months will upgrade to i5 or i7..

Is it worth it? Or should I just stick with 1150?

Keep in mind you'll have to buy DDR4 RAM if you go with Skylake (1151).

There are some motherboards that are compatible with DDR3 though.

Depends on you.

Yea.. I already included that in my estimation.

Their performance difference really isnt that big. But I just want it to be future proof as well.

There's no such thing as future-proof.

I edited the thread.. I am thinking it is also possible that I will get a cheap G4400 and upgrade to i7 2-3 months later.

Is that a good idea?

If I was building my system now, I would've spent a bit more and went with the newer tech.. You won't see benefits in gaming, but you know.. newer is always better.

And having DDR4 is kinda "cool" IMO.

P.S. NO, don't get a G4400  now. Better get the Haswell i5 from the beginning if you don't have the money for the Skylake i5 now.

if you can work off a Pentium, sure. and then you'll have a Pentium to mess with (nas?). Or why not wait 1 month more to just go for the i7

Discovering skylake gives me a headache! Hahahaha. Now I have choices to pick again. Well life is a series of choices.

You haven't seen "How I met your mother" it seems.

In the PC world, no it's not always better :)

As it happens, I usually only watch a few hours of TV a year.

And yeah, for all we know there could be some huge flaw with Skylake that nobody's noticed yet that wasn't present with Haswell/Devil's Canyon/anything older.

Sig under construction.

Or maybe if I pick Haswell I could do the same?

I can get a cheap G3258 and after 2-3months I'll upgrade to i7-4790K.

I am indeed crazy right? Does this sound a bit good? >.<

Depends on you.

Just to clarify and for future reference, Skylake supports natively both DDR3L and DDR4. But this is very important: DDR3L is not DDR3. Skylake does not support DDR3. DDR3L applies significantly less voltage and using DDR3 DIMMs in a Skylake DDR3L setup can easily result in critical damage. If OP or anyone goes shopping for a DDR3 board for Skylake, they better make note of the distinction. There are a few boards with discrete DDR3 support kind of 'glued on' but even with them the compatibility is narrow to say the least. I wouldn't go above 1.50 Volts.

If you don't have a use for the G3258 afterwords, it's pretty much a waste of money.

Also if you're just gaming a 4690k will do you wonders.

What PC do you have now? Why not get a new GPU and PSU if you need that now. Will your current CPU perform worse than a friken pentium?

I am building new from scratch.. I am thinking I can easily sell G3258 after I upgrade. Hehe. Still rethinking everything.

It all depends on what you want to do. For 99.999999999999999% of the people who come to this forum a 4790k is more CPU than they could ever use. It's also been perfected, verses the 6700k which is being tested by us at the moment. So go with the one that lets you get the most for your money.

And never say "future proof" again, ever. It makes our ears bleed.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
