FX 6300 or i3-6100?

Hi! I'm in the process of putting together and gathering parts for a budget gaming build, (I've got all but the CPU, board and memory) and with the release of Skylake, my CPU choices have become a bit more complicated. I'm torn between the hexacore capabilities of the 6300 and the IPC and just newness of the 6100. I'm just looking for advice for either processor or a suggestion for another processor in a similar price range.

Thanks!

i3 6100 is a better choice for the future. It performs better in 9/10 tasks you can throw at these CPUs.

Ok, I'm sensing overwhelming support for the i3, rather than the 6300. How much would it being a dual core hold me back?

Not much, at least not as much as the fx cpu
