I have a four year old running around my house and like to leave my PC on to download large files throughout the day. The problem is, that four year old comes up to my pc and somehow manages to completely cancel said download causing me to end up with incomplete files. My question is, is there anyway that I can essentially lock my computer while it's on while still allowing whatever programs I have open to do their thing?

Unplug your monitor, mouse and keyboard.

should have mentioned that I'm too lazy to keep plugging in and unplugging my mouse and keyboard

Yea, but that's literally the easiest thing to do. You can buy a USB dock hook it up on your desk to the mouse and keyboard, then just unplug that for convenience. Ideally you'd be able to disable inputs altogether, but in my experience that is even more glitchy than trying to run shit in the background while a computer is "locked".

Not that he can't try it, but I've had really sketchy results with background processes running while locked.

Hasn't effected my downloading. Plus, if you have some power saving features like shutting down drives, that might be more issue than lock itself.
