R9 390 Power Ussage

Fricey

I heard that R9 390 uses a lot more power than a GTX970. In this video it shows a 60 watt difference. Is true?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udXCusTnRsY

Google any number of GTX 970 and 390 reviews, and they show power consumption.

YES, its real, the difference can vary model to model too (Factory overclocks affecting the outcome)

Look at these graphs.

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/R9_390_PCS_Plus/28.html

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_970_Gaming/25.html

Put your eyes on the 'Average/Peak/Maximum' graph's.

It's prob the only reason to get a GTX 970 over a 390, if you don't wanna upgrade your PSU as well.

Not that most PSU's couldn't accommodate both anyway, but some choose one over another because of the features each company provides.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

No shit. Do these guys freak out if they see a light on at home no one is using? Do they unplug their TVs or audio equipment when not in use? Silly business

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Yep it's true - I can show you a picture of my lightbuilb's box - it uses 75W - 5W more than a 390/970's delta - I don't see my power bill rise by triple digits cause of it.

in percentage it is a lot more, 35-50%, since 230-280w instead of 170w, so if you consider what the cards use 60w is what people call a lot more, but if you look at whole system power draw, that 60w is not much

Pretty much - people like to word things to suit their argument - I am also guilty of that as it's not really lying but using grammar to your advantage :)

But power usage? On a performance PC? Come on! Name one other hobby involving performance where that matters? One? "Hey Bob, I see you got a Mustang. Everyone knows even though it's faster than the Camaro, the Camaro gets better gas mileage." Said no one EVER.

True - but you know that a lot of people are only interested in power efficiency and thus were buying GTX 480s over 5870s... oh... wait, no. Oh well :D
