Hi,

I'm currently building my first gaming PC by am a bit constrained when it comes to money so I need to either skimp on the CPU or the GPU. As such I can either get a i5 4960k cpu with an EVGA ssc 960, or a i5 4460 cpu with an EVGA sc 970. Which of the two do you suggest and what are the benefits.

PS: I am using a MSI Z97 PC mate for my mobo and a 600w power supply.

PPS: No I cannot wait and save up for a 4690k and 970 at once.

PPPS: I tend to play alot of games like Rust that aren't completely optimized yet and also wish to record gameplay through shadowplay.

Thanks

You would yield more FPS by buying better GPUs than getting the same CPU with higher clock frequency, so i5 4460 & 970. Besides you can OC that 4460 by increasing B-CLK should you choose; I don't recommend it. Besides past a certain CLK rate it hardly matters.

You gotta do you girl. I always say you gotta do you. And if he's doing him, then who's doing you? Because right now, it seems like no one's doing you.

The i5-4460 & GTX 970 combo will give you more performance over the i5-4690K & GTX 960 combo. Definitely go with the i5-4460 & GTX 970.

The 4460 is a great gaming cpu. Get it. But I'd recommend an r9 390 instead of a 970. It performs a bit better. But definitely get the best gpu you can.
