Port Scan Blocked ?

Ddave

So I just turned my computer on today and I've been getting "Port Scan Blocked" from Bitdefender.

This is the first time I've encountered this.
Any possible reasons as to why this happens ? I tried google but I can't seem to find some solid answer. (Or maybe I just didn't understand the answers I got)

do those ip's look familier?

could be bitdefender falsely detecting your primary and secondary dns server as a port scan attempt.  i know it used to have an issue with that.

Looks like someone is sending packets to your firewall/router to scan for devices/anything that will respond.

Usually, port scanning is used to look for any media devices that respond to gain access to your network.

You could lock down the inbound filters on your firewall, but this depends on the router that you have and the functions that it will let you perform. If you do have any port forwards on the router, just make sure they are locked down tot he specific IP addresses where you want them to be accessed from.

Thanks,

John.

Surely, it is a LAN issue?

Restarted the pc and the router.
No alerts for around 40 minutes.

I guess its... fixed? :)

If you have a dynamic IP address then the router would ask for a new one from the network so that would stop it to that IP address that you had last.

If you have a static address, then it might be that the software reset cleared the notifications.

You will always get people scanning wide address ranges just looking for things to exploit. I get a few every week on my firewall.
