Hello! I'm new here and I need some help building.

So, we'll just get right to it, I need to know if this build is "futureproof", approx 2-4 years.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390X Gaming 8GB

Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 5

RAM: 16GB HyperX Fury DDR4 2133MHz

PSU: Corsair RM850

Storage: A WD Desktop Blue 1TB and a HyperX Fury SSD 120GB

The case will be a Cooler Master CM Force 500 (without the PSU for some reason it bundles)

That's it, I hope I can get replies as soon as possible, thank you and this is my first ever post in the LTT forums :)

I live in Sweden where the store i'm shopping in doesn't bundle the case and a PSU.

Budget: 12-14k SEK

Color scheme: Red & Black

Purpose: Gaming

pretty much the specs match a high end system which would easily span over 2 year to max 3 years, so you're good i guess..if by future proof you mean bleeding edge latest products you gonna need 3 times more money than that , but this is much more practical

Details separate people.

futureproof doesn't exist in computer building.

The build seems all right, if I were you I'd go for an r9 fury and an i5 4690k though (assuming it's for gaming)

-edit-

also, z97 motherboards and cpus are NOT compatible with ddr4. You need ddr3.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I mean, as long as your not expecting to max AAA titles at 1440p for 4 years you should be good :P

You might want to do a GPU upgrade after a while if your wanting games maxed, especially at 4K

And do you have DDR4 with a z97 board? Unless you go to the next platform up (z170) you can't use ddr4 ;)

Otherwise it looks good :)

So, when did I not have DDR4?

That RAM is incompatible with Haswell Refresh CPU' s. You need DDR3 for that. Also, Skylake would be much more "future-proofed."

http://pcpartpicker.com/ exists for the only purpose of making parts lists. Also use Skylake if you want it to be more future proof than with Haswell. Nothing can really ever be future proof except for the case and PSU :P

Btw welcome to the forums :D Please remember to follow your own threads.

From the way things have been lately expect the GPU to last 2 years and the i7-4790k to easily, laster 3-4. Though, for all we know thos system could be complete trash in 6 months.

For the PSU get a 850w EVGA GS/G2 also.

"much" is an overstatement. In 3-4 years ( Going by Intel standards ) when the 4790k becomes to "old" a whole new socket will be out anyways.

Would the MSI Z170A Gaming M5 be a good replacement?

That's why I hate the term "future-proof."

Yeah even though what "Kaby Lake" will be LGA 1151 whatever is after Kaby Lake, Intel confirmed a new socket already.

Your going to either need to swap to DDR3 ram or get a Z170 board and a Skylake Processor instead of your 4790k :)

If your wanting a "future proof" system, (which doesn't really exist in the tech world), your going to want to bump up to skylake, so yes the Z170A M5 would be good :P

The 6600k would be great!

What are you intending to do with this system? And whats your budget? If you edit your post and address that, some people might be able to help you save some money and get a better system :)

Is the Core i5-6600K good?

Can I get, your budget, what color scheme, and form factor and I will put you together the closest thing to "future proof" as I can get. People here are just throwing info at you.
