WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEXI am trying to build my first computer and so (using different build logs) have come up with what I think to be a descent, low budget gaming rig.  I just want to make sure I am not making a 200 dollar mistake before I buy all the parts.  This is the Parts list below.  Any advice on components or where to buy them would also be greatly appreciated.

 for the CPU: Intel Boxed Core I5-6400 FC-LGA14C 2.70 Ghz 6 M Processor Cache 4 LGA 1151 BX80662I56400

for the motherboard:  ASUS Micro ATX DDR3 2000 AMD AM3+ Motherboard M5A78L-M/USB3

for the graphics card: ASUS STRIX GeForce GTX 960 Overclocked 2 GB DDR5 128-bit DisplayPort HDMI 2.0 DVI-I Graphics Card

for the RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Single DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) Very Low Profile 240-Pin UDIMM Memory Module BLS8G3D1609ES2LX0

for the Hard Drive:  WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX

for the power supply: Corsair Builder Series CX 500 Watt ATX/EPS  80 PLUS (CX500)

for the case: Fractal Core 1100 Micro at Cooling Cases FD-CA-CORE-1100-BL

My total end budget is around $700 (USD) but I am flexible within about $50

Any feedback would be helpful.  Thanks.

The i5 6400 is LGA1151 the motherboard you selected is AM3+, AM3 is for AMD and their FX series, as for the i5, personally I would choose either a I5 6600k for overclocking or a Xeon E3 1231 V3 for around 232.00$ using the older LGA1150 socket, with 4 cores 8 threads instead of just 4 cores like the I5's, the Xeon also has Ecc support, error correction code, also do not get the 960, the R9 380 and R9 390 are best per dollar replacing the 200 AMD series gpu, you should get a different power supply, from someone like EVGA, although I have not tried out their psu's it would be a good consideration, the cx series can make some nice Fireworks though, as for the hdd, I'm sure you chose a WD 1Tb Caviar Blue series, get a bigger motherboard like ATX or ever EATX if your case supports it, for the case you should get a mid Tower or above a nice cheap one is the NZXT H340 around 65$ currently as for the ram, I personally do not like crucial ram, you should get some Corsair Vengeance 2x4 GB sticks for dual channel as well as they are cheap some places have them for 38.99$ Happy Building!

I7-6700k @ 4.8Ghz, EVGA Z170 Classified, Corsair Vengeance LPX 4x8 32 GB, EVGA FTW+ ACX 2.0 GeForce GTX 980ti 6 GB x3, 2Tb WD Black x3, 1Tb Samsung 850 Evo, 400Gb Intel NVME PCIE SSD, Corsair RMx 850w 80+ Gold, Corsair Strafe Cherry MX Brown RGB, SteelSeries Sensei Raw

I don't know what I'm looking at anymore...

Where's the hard drive? Memory does not equal hard drive.

CPU and motherboard are entirely incompatible.

Get a 380 instead of a 960, or if you must get the 960 get a 4GB model.

DON'T use a Corsair CX PSU with this build.

Also, use http://www.pcpartpicker.com/ next time.

Oh and...@randymiser......follow your posts, please.
