Before Upgrading My CPU

So, last night I asked similar question but I had one more. Considering the 4790K Is a "Devils Canyon" (or whatever that means) processor will I need a BIOS update before I Install It? Also once Its Installed, I turn on the computer and then what?

 

(Its replacing my 4460)

No if your current 4460 works, so will,the 4790k.

After you turn it on, check temps and run bench marks :)

I know I cant OC but Its running a base clock of 4.0 Ghz compared to the non K which runs at a base clock of 3.6 Ghz

yes, you should have the UEFI updated for DC processors.

 

not really a big performance jump in .4GHz if basing just on numbers. the boost

would be from the cache bump and the hyper-threading.

yes, you should update the UEFI because of the process node change. there are different

instructions (chipset and CPU), power states and schemes needed for the CPU swap.

Which version should I update to? Also how do I check my current BIOS version?

you are gunna have to crack the case open to find out mobo manny and model.

doubtful that acer will have any solution to the issue, but it would be best to contact

them for some support. otherwise, you might get into something that will cost you

more than you bargained for.

What If I send It back and swap It for a 4790, will I need a BIOS update? (Considering the 4790 Is not a Devils Canyon CPU)
