WD drives

im going to be up grading my 2tb seagate SSHD to a samsung 850 evo 250 GB SSD and a 1tb-2tb drive. ive been looking at WD drives and im curious about what the difference is between them? like the WD blue vs the black. or the green vs the purple and all of the other colors. what is the difference? what would you recommend?

WD Black and Blue I find out there isn't a big difference except for TB sizes. Green offers more Size compared to  Blue and Black. But Black can have more TB than Blue. Purple is for surveillance.

 

Personally either a black or green. Green for mass storage since you already have a SSD to help speed things up.

Black - High Performance, for storing programs/games, or files for editing

Blue - General performance drives, for storing programes and files

Blue/SSHD - Hybrid drive for increased performance (great as a boot drive if you dont have an SSD)

Green - Storage drives for storing files like photos and music, (being phased out I believe)

Purple - For surveillance recordings

Red - For NAS/small servers

Purple is for constant flow of video storage ect,

Greens... Are pretty sure like "tree hugger" HDDs

Black Series are more gamer oriented.

Blue or Black is your best bet.

Blues: Solid general use hdd. It's either this or the Seagate Barracuda for budget builds.

Greens will soon no longer exist as they will be bundles as Blues soon.  Blues will be the baseline model for WD drives.

 

Blue - Decent mass storage and decent performance.

Black - High performance noise monsters

Purple - CCTV

Red - NAS

As I have 2 1TB SeaGate Barracudas, I have to admit they are pretty loud. I have had no problems with them failing though.

yah the motor whine on the single platter seagate is louder than the multiplatter WD black. I think its multiplatter anyway, its thicker and weighs a damn TON
