My first build (HTPC)

Hey, planning my first build which will be a HTPC build, the budget is around 1500 USD for which I need help deciding the components and any special components as it a HTPC .right now I have fixed

1. Case- corsair carbide air 540 .

2. Motherboard- Asus Maximus VIII ranger or Asus Maximus VIII hero??

3. Processor- Any Intel skylake processor, however i am confused between a locked or unlocked processor?? since I feel uncomfortable with overclocking(voiding warranty,higher tdp,and risk)

4. Please suggest wether special components like a sound card or tv tuner are needed???

5. GPU- GTX 970 or R9 390X or wait for PASCAL gpu's ??

imho for an HTPC you should really keep an eye on power consumption, an i3/i5 with a 750/950 would be the better approach.

I think you're sort of misunderstanding the purpose of an HTPC, you're better off using that money to being a NAS/plex media server

What do you want to use it for?

It will be used for light gaming, media centre and as a workstation
