Are there any differences between running an FPS cap/limit and Vsync if both are set to the same value?

 

 

As a side note,

 I was searching around and saw someone say:

 
"you should set it to 121 or 119 so it doesnt sync up. Also you will not get flickering at 120hz."
 
Why wouldn't you want your GPU and display to sync up??

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

CSGO.

Just because you can't see the frames doesn't mean that you won't feel the difference, especially in CSGO.

vsync is an fps cap at your monitors refresh rate

fps cap can be set at anything you want

An fps cap is a cap that is set by the developer. An example being arkham knight with the the 30fps cap.

 

V-sync means vertical sync which means that the frame is being being sync with the refresh rate of the monitor to prevent screen tearing. An example of this is when you turn on v-sync on a 60hz monitor, the fps will be capped to the refresh rate of the monitor.

 

This is what i understand. It can be wrong.

With Vsync, if your system can't quite render frames fast enough for a moment, the framerate will be cut in half - like from 120 FPS to 60 FPS. That's jarring. With an FPS cap, it'll just drop to whatever the system is capable of - say, 110 FPS. You'll get some tearing though, that's what Vsync gets rid of.
