For those that dont know me I stay up all night alot and at around 4am I get crazy ideas and do it being related to hardware or software, that being said lets get into the topic a while back I got this ideia of building a Desktop inside a backpack.

I had a old desktop i didnt use, tools and nothing to do. So i took apart the computer made a sort of case inside the backpack cut some holes for cables and air flow, and took that to school I would post pics but I had to take it apart (i still have the backpack if you want those pics). So im here to propose a challenge to Linus building a medium PC for gaming inside a backpack just has a joke.

I would also like to hear your opinion about it.

How would you power the desktop? I suppose VR headsets could replace the monitor for more mobility.  Funny idea.

I saw another user spraypaint their motherboard with plastidip, for the aesthetics.  I immediately thought about the liquid cooling protection possibilities.

Another idea would be mounting a tiny monitor(5 inches) inside the case for.. style and troubleshooting.  :P

It's even a touchscreen.

I know this is just a joke but is there a point to it even if it were possible? What not simply get a very capable laptop - this then becomes your very portable PC. Then there's the issue of powering the power supply and having a monitor handy. Even if you figure all this out, why not just get a capable laptop?

The point is being able to have desktop-grade components.

@Nico559  Well I just had to connect the power at school, but I didnt plan for that. ;c

@VAkena Well I wanted to have a personal computer for school but since I went back to school my cash flow dropped to almost 0. So I just followed that crazy ideia.

@The Official Czex At the time I was really playing mostly Payday 2 and BeamNG drive, ran Payday 2 at around 60FPS and Beam at around 30-40fps.

I know desktop-grade 980' s can be implemented in laptops, but the mobile CPU is still very limiting.

S&Gs and to see if it can be done and because you have to do something at 4am and....

If people settled for a known working solution all the time,we would all be still living in caves, eating nuts and berries.

I would also like to hear your opinion about it.

In terms of practicality, no, it wouldn't be very good. It would be very heavy, and protecting the PC from knocks would be a nightmare. Powering it and the airflow aspect would also be a nightmare.

However, not everything in tech is practical, and if this is to feed your enthusiasm, then go for it. It would certainly be an interesting build log.

Do note, if this is your daily driver, don't bother. Get something sensible, otherwise you'll be pretty frustrated with:

  1. The time taken setting the damn thing up
  2. Things going wrong, and with that kind of setup, I see being a regular occurence

From what I see, the main problems would be:

  • Cooling (and by extension, potential fire hazard)
  • Powering the PC
  • Holding its structure
  • Damage protection
  • Using a display

EDIT: Alright, this has inspired me, I want a go.  :D

Very limiting.. How much power do you need in a mobile computer? It's mobile for a reason other wise you'd buy/build a powerhouse PC

I'd rather have as much as in a desktop PC.

Then you're gonna simply have to compromise in the portability department, which sort of renders the 'portable' part useless if it's gonna be heavy altogether to house its components.

Weight doesn't matter to me as long as I can carry it in a bag.
