So me and my mate were discussing the current state on AMD's APU tech, GPU's and win10s current graphics compatibility issues and it raised a question.

IF I have a APU and a Radeon GPU does the internal GPU of the APU get disabled like intels integrated graphics or does it "fake" crossfire ??

It depends on what you have set in CCC.  By default: in the desktop environment it will disable the dGPU and use just the iGPU.  In heavy workloads it will Crossfire when able, and use just the dGPU when its not able.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Depends on the gpu and the situation.

Notebooks are simple, gpu in APU is always active and dedicated gpu kicks in when needed.

Desktops is a bit more complicated.

Some APU's can do a sort of crossfire thingy with some gpu's (mostly low end gpu's), but you can use them also seperately, both are possible.

With a high-end gpu the APU can't help with it. But you CAN (yes, you can choose) if the gpu in the APU works.

the high-end gpu wil of course always work, and you can choose in the bios if the gpu in the apu is on or not, by default it's turned off...

Same goes for intel gpu's btw, you can use the iGPU of an intel cpu when there is another gpu present.

If you use 2 gpu's but not in crossfire or whatever, each gpu will take care of the displays that are connected to it.

You can set it up either way, it's called Hybrid CrossFire. Although the compatibility list between which APUs can crossfire with which GPUs is pretty limited.

ok that's pretty cool, man I love this forum, so much things to know :D

cheers guys you're all awesome xD

Just so you know, Dual Graphics isn't 100% all its cracked up to be.  Although you will see, generally, about a 30% performance bump versus the dGPU by itself (which is nice).

yeah nah thats cool, Im not the one who has the AMD gear, its my mate that was wondering and I was like "lets go see what the forums say about it"

so it was 90% theoretical on my part and he already has it and wasn't sure if it was doing it but having said that he's not as much as a pc gamer as me so doesn't REALLY matter in the end
