Built in Laptop Camera Not Working

The problem I am having is that my built in camera will not function properly anymore. When I try to use it in skype or the camera app, all i get is a black screen that flickers green and red around the edges or this really weird neon warped image. The camera light is on, suggesting that it is recording. I've tried cleaning the lens and updating the drivers to no avail.

My system specs are as follows:

 

OS: Windows 10 Home

Possessor: AMD A8-5545 APU with Radeon HD Graphics

Installed RAM: 8.00 Gigabytes

System type: 64 Bit system, x64-based processor

BIOS: INSYDE F.14 4/16/2014

Computer model: HP Pavillion TS 15 Notebook PC

Just to rule out driver issues: Create a ubuntu live DVD/USB.

Boot into ubuntu, start a browser and check the image using google hangouts (or install skype, whatever works for you).

If you get the same image it's probaply a hardware defect and the only way to go would be to replace the came, but this is hardly possible.

I'd suspect that there might be something wrong with the actual camera sensor.
