Which HDD should I use?

I need to choose a 20GB HDD for my old computer's boot drive (its got a WD 800BB 80GB "supernova" (aka runs extremely hot) for programs, and 2x 250GB Samsung Spinpoints for the Raid 0 storage array) and I don't know which one I should use. The first HDD is my Seagate U5, and the second is a Samsung Spinpoint SV2001H (the 5400RPM model, I have a SP2001H which is 7200RPM but 1 of the pins snapped).

How bout raid 1? (the cloning one) otherwise check the smart values seeing the are both older drives and might fail on you prematurely:)

That might be an option, I can use my damaged 80pin cable (middle connector is dead) for the 80GB, and hook the 20GB up to the second RAID connector. However since the 20GB HDD are only for booting Windows XP-and nothing else, I'd probably be using RAID 0 (if my other 2 20GB HDD were usable I'd do RAID 0+1, aka Raid 10).

 

Great tips, absolutely check the SMART value. Those drives use IDE interface. Must be very old.

The U5 is one of the earliest 20GB HDD, and the SMART status on both HDD are still good, with no signs of wear.
