er... how did the salt get in in the first place? is it from food? environment? location?

dont play so much csgo.

Also if you live near a beach there is no avoiding this stuff, move away or close all the windows and use AC to get some of the salt out of air.

PEWDIEPIE DONT CROSS THAT BRIDGE

This is really the most logical option.

Oh signature time!  It's on now, gonna give ya somethin snarky and clever and think way too hard about this because I'm really concerned about what people on the internet think of me.  Better google some good quotes to put in here too.....oh wait I'm not a loser.

The only solution I can think of right now is using a dehumidifier along with a/c... it's the salt+moisture that kills stuff...

Got any pictures? what are the specific problems you're seeing?

Salt doesn't evaporate, so any salt in the system must either be put in manually, or pour down into it as salty water. In other words: if you're seeing salt crystals in your system your are doing something really wrong.

Plus, seeing that most components these days can handle pretty much non-condensing humidity levels, I don't think shorting out due to humidity would be an issue.

If you live in a VERY humid environment, moisture can condense when the system's off and without airflow though. If you're running into this issue, check out ASRock motherboards. I don't know now, but they used to have a feature that would spin the fans periodically when the system is off, in order to cycle the air and prevent condensation.

Salt CAN be carried in moisture droplets in the air, its more like salt dust, or a fog of salt in the air, thats is why sea air is salty, if you live close to the sea, then its very possible to get salt floating around in the air, if it gets into your PC it will just corrode the thing to death

(example rain does not form without tiny pieces of dust, every drop of rain has a piece of dust in it, so that is how salt gets distribute around,)

If its humid then its really easy for salt to get carried around in the air - so it IS possible for salt to get into the PC just through the air

Anyway, really the only way to solve this is to keep the air in the room as dry as possible with a dehumidifier, that should slow/stop the moisture/salt filled air from touching the PC - alternatively, storing the PC in a cabinet and filtering it could also help,

Asrock motherboards or at least some have built in de-humidifiers the PC will detect when the case inside is above x amount and reboot into dehumidify mode and will remain like that to not only protect your PC but also attempt to clear out the humidity back to acceptable levels I have 2 and both seem to work great the last 2 years I've had them.

Depending on the brand and socket CPU you use you may be able to find a motherboard with this feature built in. This is one of the reasons they added this feature that and for people that live in like alaska etc..

Update: adding filters to both intake and exhaust will help too. Some places sell magnetic filters that just stick onto the case to make it easy to clean/access.

Their video is no good but the feature works well.

<snip>

Interesting. I remain skeptical about the tiiiiiiny particles actually doing any damage (without condensing), though. If the issue is salt deposits, then we're not talking about just humidity, but about condensation, in which case ASRock would be the way to go :)

@OP, really want some pictures here :D

yeah, 5 minutes there would not be much damage, but if the PC is constantly subject to those conditions, I can see it building up significantly over time - also the bacteria and things in humid air, if you left them to just sit on your PC for weeks and weeks building up, it could easily cause corrosion too

But yeah I am not sure HOW much damage can be done, but there is definitely potential
