If you have the bravery, imo DeviantArt is your best bet.

Most of those are some pretty... niche websites for distributing art.
As a photographer I find DeviantArt pretty terrible compared to Flickr or 500px, but as someone who appreciate a lot of different genres of art I appreciate DeviantArt quite a lot.

Yeah I don't really see DeviantArt as a platform for sharing and publishing photos.  While I'm sure that people share their photos and artworks on DA, it just doesn't seem like a photography platform if you look at other sites such as Flickr and 500px which were designed for photographers.

Of course there are also other photography oriented sites for publishing your work, such as SmugMug, Picasa, Panoramio, ViewBug.  Some are free, some require a fee.

 

And there is also the option to make your own website to share, publish your photos.

I use Flickr for Photography:

1. Free

2. For photography

3. You get all the exif data easily.

4. More free space than most (1TB I believe!?) 

 

For basic images I use imgur:

1. Fast

2. Simple

3. Free

4. Easy resize/embed/etc

I most use flickr and sometimes facebook.

But in the maintime I wander across multiple sites, just looking around and get an idea of how, why and what people shoot.

currently working on my own site though(again) which I hope to complete sometime soon.

can't exactly upload since most of my compositions are on rolls of film...

I just use Puush to share scans of the pictures once I get them processed...
