So I currently running an i3 2100 which I use pretty much pinned on 100% at least once a week and it is only a dual core, I use it for a lot of rendering inside after effects and cinema 4d, I am about to get my exam results and have been told that if they are of a high standard my parents will put money towards something I was thinking a i7 2700K.

I however am wondering if this processor is still of as high quality as I remember it being and whether a newer 3770K would be a better plan, the reason I am not going for a haswell CPU is because that would also require me to get a new motherboard.

So my question is really, is an i7 2700K ideal for my usage of high workload using programs such as after effects and cinema 4d?

So I spelt something wrong in my post... I don't care I don't read through what I write and I type very quickly.

Intel 3770k stock, MSI Z77A-GD65, MSI GTX 760, Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600Mhz 16Gb, Corsair RM 550W, Samsung 830 256Gb, some random hdds.

I don't think you can get a 2700k anywhere where it would be a cost effective option compared to Ivy/Haswell. If you can find them they usually sell for the same price they did before Ivy took over. Ergo, just go with Ivy.

In the Uk the 2700K is only about £20 extra on amazon and would save me from doing a bios update to run a 3770K and potentially brick my bios

there is no big difference between 2700k and 3770k and yes, you'll see benefits of i7 in rendering comparing with i3

Thanks everyone I guess I will go for a 3770K and attempt what I have never done (a bios update).
