Hey Everyone,

So on overclockers.co.uk, I could get a 7990 for 500 quid, which, in terms of the performance I want (5760x1080 on 60Hz monitors with graphics on high in game like skyrim and BF3), is a pretty good deal. I've been looking into things about micro-stuttering and can see how much it could annoy me. However, AMD rolling out beta drivers with frame timing features has given me a new ray of hope. If you were in my situation (not wanting to spend over 500 quid on graphics cards for my tri-monitor setup), what would you do?

thanks

I'd wait for the 9000 series, your 7770 should be good enough to last you until their release.

You aren't going to get a better card for multi monitor gaming than a 7990 at 500 quid at all. Even with 9XXX launching you won't get better for that price but what you can get is a badass single card setup when 9XXX launchs for 500 quid and then have room for an upgrade later down the road which would then definitely beat the 7990.

The new frame timing driver things only apply for single monitor setups, they don't apply to eyefinity as of yet. Still worth getting the 7990, as the drivers will be updated eventually, and it pretty much 2 sapphire 7970 toxic's for 500 quid.

I read it didn't support resolutions over 2k, so that makes sense. I hoped that meant they were working towards 4k :P

I was hoping people wouldn't jump on and say 'wait for 9xxx' :P I have 10 days to get the 7990 or not sooo yeah. the 9970 is really hot and will  be really expensive and won't perform as well for the same price. Kind of a no brainer here...

But at this point in time there is no support for Crossfire multi monitor set ups and you have no idea when it will come; and given that the 9970 is rumoured to slightly outperform the Titan whilst coming in at a very aggressive price point, it is probably the way to go.

The deal for the 7990 is going to be here for 10 more days and it outperforms the titan and will outperform the 9970. If the 9970 has a similar launch price than the 7970 (something around 350 quid), then it is a very good option. Do we even have a release date for the 9xxx series? I'm still leaning towards the 7990

We have absolutely no idea when the next frame rating driver will be coming from amd and if it well even address triple monitor gaming. At the moment the 7990 will only provide you a lousy gaming experience on triple monitors, there is no use in buying it (atm) for you specific use case scenario.

What do you suggest I get then? 500 quid to spend. Some triple monitoring in skyrim, bf3 minecraft and laid back games, but also single 1080p for when I'm making videos

My suggestion is to "wait for the 9xxx series" :). But if you really cant wait just get a 780 http://www.ebuyer.com/508004-msi-gtx-780-3gb-gddr5-6008mhz-dual-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-card-n780-3gd5?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products&gclid=CLDtlZ2LjLkCFQTHtAodQggAoQ , the cuda might actually help as certain video editing programmes will be significantly accelerated making your job easier.

Looked up some benchmarks for the GTX 770 for 1080p and 5760x1080 and I think it'll serve my needs. I think I may have been struck with this face while thinking about the 7990 (without the pugs):

If you can splash for the 780 which you can get for £500, do it. Otherwise you should be reasonably happy.

Quite a bit. When we were revising and things in class, we looked at some GCSE past papers and they were piss easy. Especially in maths. Not saying that iGCSEs are very hard either. I was just surprised about the simplicity of the questions you could find in GCSE papers

I remember that in GCSE chemistry you could technically achieve an A* only writing 2 sentences. The science and the maths has gotten better from GCSE to iGCSE but it is still not where it should be to properly prepare student for A-level, and even some A-levels are overly simple.

It is ridiculous in some cases, I agree. Our school did CIE for language exams because they're harder, but I managed an A in German.... and I'm shit. Seriously shit :P
