Intel is releasing the CrossPoint SSDs next year, right? Do you think I'll be able to pick one up by the time I start buying components for my rig in November 2016 to January or February 2017?

uhh... maybe?

 

HMC has been delayed a bit on the ram side (xpoint is basically HMC for nand), and I guarantee you they will be server only for at least 12 months before becoming Pro-sumer and another 6 months before they can become kinda mainstream. (launch pricing is estimated to be around 4-10 USD/GB)

 

So overall. Not likely.

Intel was comparing it's pricing to the price of DRAM.... Like the price of DRAM was the standard by which Intel decided to call cheap enough...

 

It's going to be insanely expensive. Because enterprise will pay that much for the speeds it is supposed to give.
