Does the government only give wellfare to people who have families? My teacher says that if you want wellfare you need to have a family...

is this true?

Kinda, they give welfare to people who have to support young children but can't afford to. USA, a single person can't really acquire it, they can get disability (if injured of course) but not welfare usually.

No, not at all. In the UK at least, you don't have to have family at all to apply for something such as a disability benefit etc., and I'd be surprised if you had to do that in America. Although, America's welfare system may be drastically different to that of the UK's.

If I recall my economics classes back in IGCSE I can tell you that there are multiple types of welfare, some types are obviously reserved for families sense since they need to support the nutrition, education and living space.
