i have a main gaming rig, which already has all of my games (crysis, skyrim, portal, HL2, etc.) installed on it. but now i am trying to install them on my new laptop.

is there a way to copy the games to a USB or other storage media and install them on my other computer using that, rather than waiting a long time to download them all?

(my internet is horrific.)

I think you might be able to copy the files in the steamapps then common to the new steamapps then common on your laptop then hit install game in steam once done and it will only install the rest of the program files. I think that works, and if it does then you will only have to install a very minimal amount of files compared to downloading the full thing. I think I did that once by accidentally deleting some game folders and then it just re installed the missing ones. So try that and see if it works.

Just have steam installed and make sure you have the steamapps common folder on you laptop. and I would almost want to install one game (smallest file size) via internet to make sure steam knows that the games folder is there. or even just like a software demo that is a really small file.

Go to your laptop.Open steam, choose what game you want to play

Click download, let it download for 1 minutes.then stop it. [This is for steam to map the path to the game.]

Right click at the game and click go to local files.

Then paste the usb games in there,Replace any files that necessary

Or you could just use the Steam backup which compresses the game and creates an installer

I have my games on a seperate drive, as well as m steam install folder.

When ever in re-install Windows, I just install steam over de folder where it was installed before. It installs fine and recognizes all my games again that I already downloaded, so I don't need to download them again. This should work on your laptop as well.

Life is too short to unplug USB safely...
