I noticed a pretty huge difference in lighting and hence video quality between 2 videos that Luke hosted on the same set.  One is the new Can it run Crysis video and the 2nd was from the still-Vessel-exclusive EKWB Predator video.  There is a massive change in saturation as well as overall set lighting which made the Crysis video look really dull and flat whereas the EKWB video is perfectly lit although a touch oversaturated.

It also seems that different cameras were used as the bokeh in both looks totally different, leading me to think that this was on a different lense.  The bokeh on the Crysis video was much smoother but the colours were so muted that Luke didn't really stand out from the background, and Luke was perfectly lit in the EKWB video in such a way that the minimal bokeh in that video didn't seem to matter.

Just some random thoughts :) Thought Linus had every screen calibrated precisely to avoid this, but if this was a camera change, not much a screen can do :P

Or, YouTube is just destroying the video in a way that Vessel doesn't.

SNIP

They use multiple cameras so its probably filmed on completely different equipment, some cameras record at high bitrate, some wont, they will be graded differently, perhaps different lenses used, or different lighting

its really hard to get it the same

Like the FS700 compared to the GH4 is night and day difference,

I know they use the FS700, but do they also use the GH4?  That aside, the video looks completely different from a lighting point of view as well, and the comparison is pretty stark.

First from Crysis, 2nd screenshot fro the EKWB video.

yeah they use all sorts of cameras, they used to have a blackmagic cinema camera too I think, so I am not sure what they use

the looks could be to do with the grading used, the aperture of the camera, the lens used etc

the lighting behind looks the same, the top image is flatter, with less saturation than the bottom and the top also has a shallower DOF

IIRC

blackmagic=B-roll/run and gun

GH4= back-up/run and gun

FS700= main cam

@Samfisher considering these screen shots it seems they used 2 diffrerent cameras with maybe the same lenses, my guess is the top being the FS700 and the bottom teh GH4 or blackmagic

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

I thought the EKWB video (on vessel) looked great the way all the colors popped and the color of backing (I don't know cinematography)

Just me?

Yes it does look better(based on screen shot) although they are still experimenting with light, judging on the purplish light on the world map and suitcase in the back.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

Nah, it's the lighting on Luke that looks massively different not the background lighting :P

Yeah I really liked how Luke's skin didn't seem so dull compared to the Crysis one and looked a much cleaner video too cos of it :D

Im 99% sure the lighting is the same, I assume they are filming using a flat SLOG profile on the FS700, and it has not been graded very well so he looks washed out as do all the other colours

And the bottom one looks more like a regular recording without a flat profile - or somebody has taken the time to grade the footage

its either using a different aperture/lens or its a different camera

the top one looks like an incomplete colour grade

Whatever it is they did, the bottom one is my preferred output :P

the top one WOULD look better if they did it properly
