GPU setup for 144hz 1440p

Go to solution Solved by Kenji the Uke,

SLI 980ti

Both of those are overkill. SLI 970 FTW!

Depends on what game.. In most cases, Radeon X-Fire scales better than SLI. In newer games, X-Fire R9 Fury (X/non X) actually BETTER than SLI 980ti's. But that's not everything.

You'll find that if the game doesn't utilize X-Fire/SLI, then the 980ti's will be better. If it does utilize it, though, X-Fire Fury's will be better.

NOT IN EVERY CASE DON'T QUOTE ME OUT OF CONTEXT.

so.. i think i missed something, because i'm pretty sure the non-x fury is cheaper than the 980ti, and slower.

if you have the cash to toss at SLI 980Ti, either do that, or do two furyX in CF and deal with the radiators.

@Kobathor is correct Fury X's scale better than 980ti's and therefore result in higher performance in multi GPU setups.

Why not get both and sidestep that issue completely?

I would chose CF Fury Xs over SLI 980Tis, but since the Fury is supposed to be the equivalent (slightly better) than the 980 you're essentially comparing SLI 980s to SLI 980Tis here.

but you have to deal with the two AIO coolers, and CF fury X doesnt look nearly as impressive as SLI 980ti with a juicy cooler.

(if you're going sli, might as well get some eyecandy right?)

I'll agree that they don't look that spectacular but I'm a performance guy so I go with what works best. If the Nvidia/AMD card setup becomes common in DX12, I might even do that.

Not for 144FPS maxed out 1440p...

If you want to spend an extra $650 that's not necessary, by all means go ahead.

It works for me, and I have 4 monitors. Maybe not MAXED out, but pretty damn close. High settings. 3.5 is high enough for 1440p lmao.
