MacBook Pro SD Card reader isn't working..

Revel

I think this might be the right place to post it since it regards storage. My SD Card reader on my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro isn't working. It doesn't show up in Disk Utility if it's supposed to even be there, and I have some pretty important files on these SD Cards that I am in need of. And no, I did not buy this chunk of aluminium, it's my school laptop and if I ask the guy responsible for school computers he's gonna say I broke it myself. Any possible fixes? Might have missed some information aswell.

I would suggest buying an external card reader... I think it's better to do so. In terms of fixing it, I have no idea.

Alright, pretty sad that an expensive machine can't have a working product.

No, it won't appear in Disk Utility unless there's a working card inserted.  But even then, the working card would also appear in Finder.  So there's no need to consider Disk Utility when trying to figure out if the card reader is working.

Instead, turn off the computer and unplug everything from it except the power adapter.  If the power adapter isn't plugged in, plug it in.

Reset the SMC by holding down Shift - Control - Option (left side) and the power button for about 10 seconds and then release.  Nothing exciting will happen.

Turn the computer back on.

To go /Applications/Utilities and open System Information.app

In the left-hand column under the Hardware heading are two items:  Card Reader, and USB.

Card Reader will display some technical jargon.

USB will list the "Internal Memory Card Reader" if it's detected and working:
