Hey guys,
I've found an offer locally, where a shop will take my old hardware and give me discount for the new I want to buy.

What I have is:

• ASRock 990FX Extreme 3
• FX-8320
• FSP 650W Silver
• CM 412s CPU cooler (the fat one)
• CM N400 Case
• ASUS DirectCU II R9-270 2GB
• 2x4 GB Kingston HyperX DDR 3/ 1866Mhz

I recently got my CPU and Motherboard RMA-d since the VRM of the Mobo burned (smoke and stuff) as it also fried my CPU. So the CPU and Motherboard I have now are practically new.

I've always had problems with this mobo-cpu combo since on many of the games the VRM got hot and throttled my CPU performance which in turn leads to fps drops from time to time. (Happens with the new one aswell, eventhough much less frequently than with the one that got smoked). I've had it enough with this motherboard so I was thinking of selling it for 50-ish euro and buying a new one for about 110-120. I was looking at ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

The offer is as it stands:
They give me 6600k + 2x4GB DDR4 Crucial 2133Mhz for my MOBO,CPU and RAM as I will add another 100 Euro.
I will also have to buy a new motherboard as I am thinking that the Gigabyte GA-Z170 HD3 is going to be good for me,as it is priced at 110-ish Euro. Combined with the money for the cpu deal its at the edge of my budget.

They will give me an offer for the 4690k on Wednesday, since they're going to restock then. But I am expecting some offer that will be near the first one.

What do you guys think I should do?
Go for 6600k or 4690k.

I think I will do a mild overclock (as air cooling won''t allow me to do much more, also considering that the motherboard I am looking at is not enthusiast grade).

I am also planning on upgrading the R9-270 to GTX970 in a few months and I don't intend on using more than one GPU. 

Please also tell me if upgrading to new MOBO/CPU combo will require me to change other parts, such as PSU or anything else.

 

I am sorry for the wall of text, and thank you for taking the time to help a brother out.

Yeah, I've seen tests that show how much performance it gets.

MHz doesn't offer any noticeable improvement at all, unless you call a bigger number in a RAM benchmark an "improvement" its not worth paying more for

If you play A game that is CPU bound it can be all from 2fps to 50fps improvement! But it depends on the game and CPU i5 and i7 probably wont need high MHz!

there is 0 improvement at all unless you are using an APU or IGPU which can actually benefit from higher speed ram

no, ram does not affect gaming performance unless you are using iGPU/APU

I think the benchmarks you're looking at are APU/iGPU benchmarks, because with a discrete GPU there is no improvement

That video is "very old" and outdated you need to test with a strong GPU and a weak CPU to see true results!

 

Also it can be from 2fps to 50fps you did simply not watch it!!!

it is one of the best for gaming

Nope games likes MHz over CL also I tested it myself!
