You'd have to take them off because if intake, well, can't get air through solid surfaces and if outtake that'll just cycle back into the case.

Hey there fellow Linus Media Group followers!

 

I am currently designing a build using the Define R5 however I have a query about the case. If you use the top fan slots, can you put the covers on or do you have to leave them off?

If you put fans up there, of course you need to remove the covers. How else are the fans going to do anything?
