New high end cans?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

Ultrasone Edition 10 appears to be a terrible waste of money. Just read the Innerfidelity review.

You could wait around for the HD800S which will supposedly be a better version of the HD800 (more damping!). As for HE-1000, I recommend reading the "Big Sound" series on innerfidelity to get an idea of how it stacks up against the HD800. And a LCD headphone as mentioned could be a nice compliment to the HD800 that you already have.

Here is my collection thus far

HD 800's

Hifi Man He-500's

Mad dogs Ether C

AKG K702's

SRH1540's

and HD 600's

My question is, would it be worth it to add Ultrasone Edition 10 Limited headphones to my collection?  What about He-1000's?  I don't like my He-500's that much because they feel quite heavy and there is a noticeable difference in the sound quality between them and the HD 800's

I'm playing my Xbone on 3 LG Curved monitors-No one ever

There hasn't been much innovation in the headphones market for ages.  That's why the Senn's have been around for donkey ages before getting a slightly more modern refresh that sound basically the same :P

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.

Take them all apart and stick them together somehow; if you succeed you might have a market leader... who knows :D

SSL beat me, but If you really like your HD800 It would be worth getting the New 800S! I would not sell your hd800 to get the new S but wouldnt mind having a similar pair if I really liked them.  I have been saying that if they only had a black model of the HD800 I would pick up a pair and I didnt want to try and find an older pair with the blue ring.  I will be picking up a pair as soon as they become available as well as the amp.

If you think the HE-500 feels heavy, I would stay away from anything Audeze makes. Their headphones are even heavier, and the headbands aren't any better, so you would probably have the same issues there. Have you thought about something like the Koss ESP-950? Or perhaps something along the lines of EnigmAcoustics Dharma, talk about an interesting headphone.

Wow, I wonder why I've never heard of the Dharma.  It looks fantastic!  Am I missing something here, but it's impedance is only 26 Ohms?  I looked at the Koss, and I've heard good things about them but it looks like something I pulled from underneath the seat of a dusty old Delorean. Plus it has a non removable cable which isn't too serious but it's still a gripe.

I mean, impedance doesn't really mean much for a pair of headphones, so long as whatever amp you're using has a sufficiently low output impedance to remove any effects caused by damping factor.

They aren't really talked about all that much, but I saw them when they were announced, and they've been in the back of my mind here for a while.

The Koss may not have a removable cable, but Koss does have a no questions asked, lifetime warranty. That means that for the price of shipping, and I think $5 (to cover shipping back to you), you get free replacements of anything that has to do with the headphones, for life (as in, as long as you are living)! So I wouldn't really be worried about the cable breaking or anything. Also, Koss has REALLY good customer service, so they really do mean it when they say lifetime warranty. I have never heard of anyone ever having any issues with Koss warranty replacements, ever. It might be limited to one replacement per year, or something, since I haven't looked at the warranty recently, but it's pretty comprehensive, and very fair.

I'll think about it, I'm one of those people who have(I'm not kidding in the least) that have spent 16 hours and 30 minutes of a day just listening to music while laying down.

I'm pretty sure I've done a few days about that long. I would definitely look and see if you can find any good reviews about the Dharma at the very least, since it may very well be a flop. I'm not sure, and I haven't done any research into it, although I think that Tyll at InnerFidelity said something about his impressions at some show or other being rather positive. Hopefully he gets a pair in for review at some point.

The Koss are known to be a great sounding headphone, and they are one of the more forgiving electrostats out there, as far as being a slightly warmer sound than most.
