They can't do anything with that data they obtain if it's actually legal, if they take it it's still yours. They can only access, disclose and preserve the things that are actually illegal. If it contains your private secret stuff, they steal it and you didn't do anything illegal you can still sue them to hell.

1) Their privacy statement doesn't specify what they can or cannot do with that data. Since when has Microsoft become the NSA

2) How would you even know if they stole the data, to sue them?

1) Since never. It doesn't need to specify, they still can't legally take what is yours. It says "when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to"

2) If you don't know it that means they didn't do anything with it, so it doesn't change anything for you.

Yes, but even then they can't do anything with the data they obtain if it's legal and yours. Warranted searches can find your private files too, but they can't do anything with them.

The point I am trying to make, is that some of us still don't trust everything said by companies. We'd like our privacy, and it is being blatantly threatened by a company that has no right to our data.

That would cost them millions of dollars in court. I don't think that's good for a business.

Then don't use any of their software at all, since Windows 7 also collects your data the same way. In case you didn't know that.

Yes, they can take it and they can put it in a jar. And better make sure no one finds out that they took it.

Doesn't mean it's not great...

There must be a reason most businesses are running Windows 7. Even when they were forced to upgrade while 8.1 was out.

8.1 and 10 are filled with privacy issues as well as interface changes that would be a major headache for help desk.

AFAIK bussinesses use 7 only because they use some specialised software that may not be compatible with 8 and 10. As for privacy, there are "enterprise" editions of the OS, which enable you to have 100% control over updates (among other things).

For a home user, there is absolutely NO reason to still use 7.

your welcome :3

i dont understand so many people talking about privacy like "i got nothing to hide, they can scan my pc, my body, eeeeverything"

common sense should tell you that they cant give you that "security" without taking your freedom! your stuff is yours, if someone tries to put his nose in it, crush them/dont let them

i know blablabla they want to make things better like antivir, os ...  try getting the data from the isp or encrypted data from pc... :D

We're mid-transition at work from Win 7 and 8.1 to 10. Aside from the fresh install perks, the Win 10 machines are far snappier than the others. All the machines have the exact same specs, are from the same lot and have been purchased at the same time (Dell OptiPlex 3010 with 3470s and 4 Gb of ram)

With Windows 10, Microsoft somehow misunderstood what "service" means, and took it to mean the complete polar opposite of what it actually does mean. Windows Update, with no information on updates, mandatory updates, forced installations ignoring user settings, runs as a complete disservice.

Apparently, when Satya Nadella goes to a restaurant, the restaurant doesn't wait for Satya Nadella to place an order, brings him something that he didn't necessarily want, and then force-feeds it down his throat, regardless of whether he accommodates the process - and has people go through all the files in his brief case while he's receiving his "service", scanning parts of his documents, and pledges to use whatever content it finds. And, no doubt, Satya Nadella leaves a generous tip at the end of it all, feeling that he received good service.
