+1 on the Noctua NH-D14. But with these coolers you would have to check the the ram and motherboard heatsink clearance as it may interfere with them.

Not entirely sure. It's almost always a very close matchup with the best coolers depending on the testing environment.

so this cooler costs 1/3 of the price, weighs half as much and goes toe to toe with this giant hulk of metal hanging off your cpu socket that everyone raves about...

(before you come in talking about noise, your pc wont/shouldnt get hot enough to really ramp up most of the time and if your gaming game noise would more than likely cancel out your system noise AND you graphics cards will inevitably be louder)

also when someone comes along and says "i want to get a cpu cooler but im on a budget" what do you recommend?..
It's been the workhorse of coolers for techies for a long time, like richard hammond said in the transit episode of top gear, you dont write with a pen you write with a biro, you dont use a vacuum cleaner, you use a hoover (im in england, sue me).
everyone from the person starting out to that guy with a 3570k@4.4ghz uses it.

I got a Hyper 101i, it's not great but it's small.

My Hyper 212+ was so good, i could run it passive on an overclocked Q9550.
