I was playing on my i7 3770k at 4.2 Ghz. It was running at that speed for 6 months. I also have an H100 cooling it. Normally, the CPU would idle at around 30 C and run 60 C at max. But randomly, when I was playing Minecraft, the H100 fans stopped working. Luckily the CPU underclocked itself to not overheat and I turned off my computer. I then fixed one of the fans that stopped working and completely replaced the other fan. But now, the CPU idles at 70 C. And can even idle at 100 C!!! My question is, how can I fix this? Or, what may be the problem? I even went as far as replacing the thermal compound and that didn't help. Any ideas?

EDIT: I have posted this on the PC Part Picker forums and got no response. So I tried here.

You may have broke your pump or something. Remount your block and check to see if the H100 is doing its job.

Recheck the thermal paste aswell.  My laptop started rapidly increasing in idle temperature (80C at idle) when the paste started solidifying.  (When i replaced the paste, i had to flake the old paste off)

I think you are right. I have already re-mounted my block and it still isn't working. I'll see if maybe I can get an H100i or something, I've been wanting one for a while anyways.

I removed the old thermal paste and but new paste on. It didn't help very much.

Unplug your PSU from all key components (A.K.A. everything), then plug your pump with a 3 pin to molex adapter to your PSU and turn on the PSU (bridging the cables, green and any black i think it was, better check that out), this should turn your pump on, then you can try to determine if it is working by its "sound" it should make a sound but you'll probably have to get really close to it to hear anything.

If you can't hear anything that resembles water flowing or something spinning then its the pump that failed.

Ok thank you. I will try this tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works.

You should request an RMA with Corsair to see if you can get a replacement if you are still under warranty: http://corsair.force.com/

Try to run some tests on the H100 itself, it may be a faulty pump. If so, contact Corsair to get an RMA.
