Windows server 2008 Problems

SNorman

When trying to add a new Windows Server 2008 machine to a network I get the following error message..."An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain."  I don't have any problems adding windows 7/8/10 machines to the domain and not sure why I can't add a Windows Server 2008 machine.  I am able to get on the internet on the Windows Server 2008 PC but can't add it to the domain.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I'm connecting it to a windows server 2012 r2 domain controller

Adding as a DC or as a client?

Plus, you need to put in the IP of the 2012 r2 in the DNS settings. "Click on Use the following DNS server address". Also make sure you've added a static IP for the server

Done all of the above still not working

If you are good with this sort of stuff and no one else replies then I might PM you to ask you for some help and give you some screenshots of the current setup

Also, the domain name, it's case sensitive, so make sure you're typing it in correctly. Also try pinging the DC server.

I have tried different cases but I did not think to try pinging it! Genius

Also have you even installed the DNS role on the DC?  Go to the server and check if it's installed.

Wow, Case shouldn't matter for domain names. Otherwise Google.com <> GOOGLE.COM

My guess is there is something else happening.
