Hey Everyone,

So after a bit of a break I've decided to head back into the fold and build myself another gaming machine. Various things in life (moving interstate, working and studying) had meant my current computer choice ended to be either a laptop or something that did not take up a lot of space. For this reason I've been living off a 27" iMac for the last 3 years. While its been great for photo and video editing its not really up there in terms of repairability (i replaced the HDD with and SSD and man was that a mission) or gaming the former being something I've missed greatly.

So its time to stage a comeback. Bellow is the current specs for my return to the master race (even if i do plan on building a dual boot hackintosh).

  • Asus X99 Deluxe MB
  • 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4
  • Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Addition
  • EVGA Titan X
  • Corsair AX1200i PSU

CPU choice is currently up the in the air...but I'm leaning more towards the 5960X (i can...so why the hell not). HDD methodology is also still undecided. Im going SSD for boot and main programs. Im thinking 1 SSD per OS, with a HDD for file storage and another for backup, but i already have a 6TB NAS so i may just do achronis backups to that.

Im planning on water cooling the whole thing. Ive already picked up some EK water blocks and rads (2X CoolStream CE 280 Rads, Supremacy EVO CPU block and Full Cover Titan X nickel block) as well as two BeQuiet silent wings 2 140mm fans.

So if people have any suggestions, modifications or anything i would love to hear them. Once all the main parts start to arrive ill start a build log in the other forum.

I would say go with a 980ti instead of the Titan X (the 980ti even wins in some benchmarks) but since you've already got the block switching probably isn't worth the trouble.

Pro Tip: don't use flash when taking pictures of your build; use a longer exposure instead. Prop up your camera with something (preferably a tripod) if necessary.

if you use retarded/autistic/etc to mean stupid please gtfo

According to EK the block i have will do both, so it might be an option. Thanks

Oh yeah, I forgot the reference block is the same for both of them. You should definitely go with the 980ti then.

Hey Everyone,

I take it your budget is fairly high, at that budget you could potentially just get a desktop replacement laptop.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

The Corsair Ax1200i PSU is pretty expensive on its own (not even starting on AUS markups). My recommendation would be to get a EVGA 850G2/P2 as 1200W is way too overkill is you are just using 1 card and because its much cheaper, while still beingvery very good quality

It is, what I should have mentioned in my post was that I plan on going multiple monitors.

My original plan was for the 1500... But yeah it is a bit overkill, I might go a second card (after watching the dual head gaming video I'm getting all kinds of bad ideas)...either way I'll look into that psu...thanks

Well if you're moving around a lot there's a number of laptops with full 980s coming out, that might be something to go for, or MSI has that laptop with a dock that you can run a desktop GPU on while at home.
