Stupid RAM upgrade question

Go to solution Solved by Castdeath97,

That should work.

You can buy a single 8GB module and buy another in the future to get 16GB but you will lose the benefit of dual channel until you upgrade.

Hi guys. I am super to this forum and computer building in general so i'm sorry if this is a dumb question.

Currently i have only 4GB of ram in my machine and I'd like to upgrade it.

This is what I'm currently running

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260&cm_re=cmx4gx3mza1600c9-_-20-145-260-_-Product

I'd like to get up to at least 8GB. I have room for another 2 sticks on my motherboard. If I buy two 4GB sticks could I just put it in along side my old ram or should i just replace it completely?

I was thinking of buying this

thinking I could always replace the old ram later if i end up needing 16GB

Would that ram work?

Thank you for your help. :)

Effectively doubles the memory speed by making both modules work together.

However, it usually helps in few tasks in practice (usually speeds up APUs).
