Powering LEDs from Fan Controller Question

So I've looked around a good bit. Some sites say yes its easy others say no you'll need resistors and such. I want to wire all of my own LEDs instead of buying for the pre-done strips, mainly to save the money.

I wanted to know if I could just power these led strips from the fan controller on my R4. It seems easy enough but I just want to make sure before I bought the strip and blew up my PSU.

I've never soldered before but I'm confident that I can do it from the YouTube videos I've watched. (I've had an iron for years but never used it) I know the LEDs run on 12V and they are the 3528 type. If this will work, would they also work on the 7V and 5V settings (Dimmer)?

If this isn't going to work I could always just use a Molex which I know from YouTube videos does work, but a nice dimmer switch wouldn't hurt.

One thing to mention is when you solder the leads to the LED strip to ensure the postive and neagtive wires are positioned correct since LED's will only emit light if the current is flowing in the proper direction.

Running the LED's at lower voltages shouldn't be an issue but I would reccommend to use inline resistors with molex rather than the fan switch on the case to ensure proper power delivery. If you wanted to dim the LED strip you can always pickup a low voltage dimmer at most hardwares stores for about $5.

GL on your Build :D
