$600-700 1080p gaming rig for a friend.

tlmills82

As the title says I have a friend who is looking for a computer for 1080p gaming.  Mainly games like World of Warcraft, Ark, Heroes of the Storm and he's really gotten into a game called Mordheim: City of the Damned.

He did give me a pretty broad range for budget which was $500 - $800.  I was trying to stay in the middle if I could but wouldn't mind presenting maybe 2-3 options to him throughout the budget range.

This is the first build I came up with so far.  I hear the 380 is a good bang for the buck card...I've not done a ton of research on it personally though.

Also I left the case out because I'll just let him choose it.

sapphire is the EVGA or AMD if u know what i mean :l

nah msi has hotter temps, but thats about all, msi is gud too

http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1986-amd-r9-390-r9-380-overclocking-benchmark/Page-2

It has nothing to do with what manufacturer is the main one. The Sapphire couldn't pass over 1100mhz. 100 less than what the MSI is capable of.

Either way AMD has hotter temps in comparison.

As for what I've heard the Asus strix series has the hottest temps, even with their nvidia gpus

I do find it a shame really, since i do think Asus strix has a pretty cool design. My favorite gpus in terms of design is MSI's twin frozr coolers. Asus' strix might be my second favorite design.

When it comes to builds I usually prefer matching motherboards and gpus. (I wish I did the same with my current set up, which is an msi board and a gigabyte gpu, the gigabyte one looking very out of place). I do wish Asus would upgrade the fans on theirs.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think this is the build minus the GPU, Hard Drive and SSD.  (He has a brand new SSD he'll be using and will be re using a 1TB HDD.

I'm torn between the GTX 970 or the R9 390.  I've watched a few videos here and there and I can't decide which one to get.  Which card would fit best here and keep it under $800?
