Must capping FPS at 121 be consistent?

Hi,

This is my first post. I just wanted to ask a quick question to the fellow gamers here.

I play FPS games (primarily CS:GO) and I usually cap my frame rate to 121 because I have a 60Hz monitor. (To my understanding, the general rule of thumb is to cap your fps to 2*(screen refresh rate) + 1)

My question is: MUST I keep a consistent 121 FPS? Or would it be okay to turn some of the graphic settings up as long as I can maintain 60+ FPS (i.e. 60 <= FPS <= 121)?

Thanks,

JayZero.

It makes no sense to have a higher framerate than what your monitor can handle.

All it does is gives you tearing.

Lock the framerate at 60hz!

false

if u have 60hz and u get 80fps maybe

but if you get 120fps

then its better then 60fps.

More Fps = better

The reason I cap it above is incase I get frame drops, which bother me more than tearing.

I have never heard that. Generally you see people capping fps to 125 which with older titles was half of max fps you could get (250). In FPS games you want to get stable fps, it doesn't matter how high they are. As long as you can play without framedrops.
