Yes. As long as you're using an emulator to interpret all the data, any DVD drive will do.

No, that's not how it works. You will need an emulator as well.

I have an emulator

Cool, I just recycled a hp lite-on dvd drive from my old Compaq pc and it's not dvd-rom, I know what I need to get next time I get money for pc parts.

I don't know what emulator you're using, but if you plan on dumping the game, only certain optical drives are supported.

No, a standard DVD drive won't read a Wii game due to the proprietary filesystem.

OP, you have to get a specific drive (it's an LG something, Google it) to read Wii games.

If you own the game then just grab a backup from kickass or tpb and use that in Dolphin.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

Reading data is one thing. Interpreting data is another thing.

It won't even read it though. You need a specific LG drive to read Wii discs in a PC.
