Hi,

I'm going to be building in the SG13B soon and was wondering what the best PSU would be. I was looking at the Seasonic S12II but I feel like it might be a bit too big. Are there smaller/better ones? 500w+ please.

My parts list (if you care): http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GRBCYJ

That Seasonic is pretty small but non-modular. Will the EVGA GS 550W fit in your budget? It happens to be modular and really small.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

You could look at SFX/SFX-L units, Hardware Canucks used one in their Fractal Core 500 video. Seemed to make the whole process easier and tidier.

Bit too pricy for my budget. $70 and below shall we say?

PSU is the one area where you don't want to sacrifice.

At $70 there really isn't anything that would be ideal for your needs. Shallow depth, modular, and decent quality.

My recommendation, drop your SSD until another paycheck, buy the SFX-L PSU. It's quality, shallow and fully modular with stock short cables.

EDIT: Postponing the SSD purchase will also give you time to pick out a better one.

So no ATX PSU will work?

Also, what SSD would be better? I use an OCZ one but I heard the Kingston one was good too.

Many will work, it's just far from ideal. If you were to buy a new 970, either Asus or Gigabytes ITX cards there wouldn't be an issue. It's just compensating for all the little issues that are present is not an easy thing to do with $70. There are a few units you could buy that would be shallow enough, and decent enough in terms of quality, but the cables would be an absolute mess and installation and maintenance later on would be miserable.

I already own my MSI 970 so I can't do that. If you had to give me an ATX PSU what would it be?

So I'm going to just go ahead and call myself an idiot. When I read SG13, I visualized the SG08. It's a very different internal design. That said, everything but what I said about GPU clearance still holds true. Just read SSD/HDD anytime a previous post mentions the GPU.

The 140mm length of the PSU you mentioned earlier is the shortest you can get without going SFX, which I still recommend, though is less important now I'm actually thinking about the right case. Though my recommendation for modularity still stands as important as ever.

If you can stretch your budget a little bit this would be the best choice I can think of.

As for alternative SSD's, here are some options. (They may not be the best, but they should be better)

Also, there may actually still be some clearance issues with your GPU, nothing a dremel and vacuum can't fix, but your 970 is 0.09 inches long than the case can officially hold. There is often some leeway with internal measurements to allow some extra movement during installation, but you may have issues.

I'll go for that PSU I guess, but I'm not overjoyed with the price. *sigh* the price I pay for quality...

Also, do you know if the OZC ARC 100 is any good? That's what I use in my home PC, and it seems fine (and cheap).

As for the GPU, the case specs lie; tons of people have fit an MSI 970 in that case.

Also, thoughts on this? I know it's semi modular but that's not a big deal to me.

That will work very well.

As for the OCZ Arc, don't know anything about it.
