Arc Midi R2 Fan Config

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

I bent a couple fins like a moron >_>

Sadly I'm on a carpet. I should have stated that.

PWM

A few bent fins shouldn't make much of a difference.

It would help to be more specific... some options that offer pwm control don't do it properly.

Greetings!

1 of the fans that came with my arc midi r2 is ticking at all RPMs. I'm going to replace all of them, and my hyper 212.

Planning on Noctua U14s, and 5 NF-A14s. All set up in this config. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9kyMkL

Any thoughts on improving this? I'm not really a silence freak, I kinda like a low hum. But I cannot deal with ticking. So idk if the noctuas are right for me.

Since I've been on this forum for enough years to know who will answer this question... @WoodenMarker.

I have the Mini R2 and have the top two fans as Intake NF-A14s since they directly feed the NH-D15s CPU cooler. The rest is as you have it.

It will give you positive airpressure, with the intakes all through the dust filtered mounts. You can also run the intakes at their lowest rpm speeds for better noise reduction since you have more intake than exhaust fans.

It's quiet this way - I've configured the motherboard bios to run the intake fans between minimum and 900rpm, with the rear exhaust NF-S12a running a little faster.

You know you can remove the 5.25" drive bay, right?

Why replace the entire cooler as opposed to just swapping out the fan? Is the 212's performance unsatisfactory?

Noctuas shouldn't have any ticking issues. Moving one of the top exhausts to the bottom for intake would be better.

How do you plan to control the fan speeds?

Are you splitting off from the cpu header? The other pwm headers aren't as reliable.

I'm not but I can. Any specific splitter/hub you'd recommend? Would this be good? http://www.amazon.com/Swiftech-8-Way-Splitter-Power-Connector/dp/B00IF6R4C8

That's fine--there's nothing particularly special about a pwm splitter.
