I was thinking of picking a GTX 780 for around $250 or should I go for something newer?

What do you guys think?

Let me know!

Thank you!

Thats a good deal. I would say worth it

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

You can get a EVGA 780 over in their B stock outlet under $200. Just check it often or subscribe to their auto notify. My 780 can handle most any games at 1440p. As for 4k it will barely play anything even at low settings.

780ti kingpins on EVGA can be found for less than $200. For benchmarking and rendering tasks you should be well above a gtx 970, for games you should be in gtx 970 range and higher if you overclock. That being said, a Kingpin card NEEDS to be overclocked.

I don't know if they still have it, but you can get a brand new r9 390 on Newegg for $260 after rebate and just the other day they had a pny or zotac gtx 970 for $250, both outclass the gtx 780 in performance by a pretty wide margin in some scenarios. Video cards are only getting cheaper and more powerful. It's good for us the consumer because we can expect awesome performance for a low price. Like the gtx 780 and 780ti were people's dream $700- 800 gpus not too long ago and now they are considered pretty average lol.

Hahaha!!

How are the drivers for the card?

I've heard a few people tell me not to get the card because of the drivers.

Hey. If you want the card, go for it! EVGA is a great brand. Some of the lower quality brand 970s have dropped to $250. But the 780ti should still be better than 970 for video editing. If people say that Nvidia hasn't gimped the card then I would grab it. It's just that in a lot of the newer games sites have the 780ti scoring quite a bit lower than the 970/390. But its always good to talk to people who actually own the card.

It should be alright. But if you have any problems with the latest driver, you can always use the previous stable version.

If you're set on getting an Nvidia card then the 780 line is still very good.

My personal recommendation is a 290 because Nvidia drivers are craptastic.

i'm running latest drivers i play A LOT of games and EVERYTHING is running perfectly fine and up to expectations, nvidia drivers are flawless anybody saying otherwise is most likely an AMD fanboy ;)

I have a lot of friends who run Nvidia (multi monitor) and they complain of driver crashes a lot more often than I or other AMD users do. Some of them have Win 10 so I blow that off as the companies being full retard with driver support for the new OS but from word of mouth Nvidia has been letting its driver support slip.

The single monitor might be why. I know that Nvidia multi monitor drivers have become notorious for being bad and most, if not all, of my friends run dual or tri monitor set ups.

maybe that's why cause i have yet to encounter ANY driver related issue since i bought this card about a year and a half ago...performance has always been good and consistent the only exception was the game ready driver released for the witcher 3 which was then fixed the week after to restore performance to what it should be on kepler GPU's...nvidia did something wrong with this one but then they fixed it ASAP so it's alright.

Hmm? What do I have against nvidia? What does pointing out that nvidia's drivers are far from flawless have anything to do with being against nvidia? Little boy.
